Leveraging a storied career in the justice system spanning more than 25 years, expert attorney Deena Williamson currently serves as General Counsel of IBEX Global. An outsourcing company based in Washington, D.C., with offices worldwide, IBEX Global supplies an array of customer service solutions to mid- to large-sized businesses. As one of her primary roles in this executive position, Deena Williamson works to ensure any legal matters related to IBEX Global are handled in compliance with the law, including that of data security.

With nearly daily reports of data breaches of major companies across the U.S. and abroad, knowledge, training, and experience in data security law is an increasingly in-demand skillset. As a way to ensure companies are adhering to the latest cybersecurity procedures and to boost marketability to current and prospective clients, law firms throughout the country are applying for and working towards receiving data security certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

The ISO is the establishment responsible for setting the global standards for professionals and companies in their respective sectors. A 2015 survey revealed that, at the time, 18 firms had received the certification and 33 more were close to completing the process, suggesting the numbers will only continue to grow, as certification serves as a compelling means of assuring clients that their information is safe and secure.

Attorney Deena Williamson is an experienced general counsel in the business-outsourcing industry and is currently affiliated with IBEX Global in Washington, D.C. Outside of work, Deena Williamson enjoys several hobbies, including horseback riding.

Aside from the sheer pleasure of riding a horse, there are many health benefits to be derived from it. First, horseback riding promotes core strength, muscle tone, and flexibility. Horseback riding is an isometric exercise that requires the rider to use specific muscles in certain positions, hence improving both postural strength and the strength of core muscles over time.

Apart from core muscles, horseback riding also improves the strength and flexibility of other muscle groups, such as the inner thighs and the pelvic muscles. Horseback riding is also known to improve muscle coordination due to the numerous bodily movements that need to simultaneously be synchronized.

In addition to the physical benefits, horseback riding is also a great mental exercise. The rider needs to remain mindful of his or her body and balance and interactions with the animal. Many riders also report going into a kind of meditative state as they focus on the moment and the activities of the ride.

Deena Williamson is a legal professional who brings more than two decades of experience to her current role as general counsel and corporate secretary with IBEX Global. Outside her professional life, Deena Williamson enjoys playing tennis, which provides a variety of health benefits.

Playing tennis gives most of the body a workout. Running back and forth across the baseline to play each stroke, as well as the quick starts and stops that come along with those swings, works nearly all the muscles in the lower body. The actual swing works the arms and core as well.

In addition to muscular work, tennis is a great way to improve both aerobic and anaerobic health. Because the heart rate increases while playing, the blood pumps faster, delivering more oxygen and other vital nutrients to muscles. Additionally, the muscles are able to more efficiently use that oxygen because of the interval nature of the sport, which requires quick and decisive movement.

Because tennis works the entire body, increases the heart rate, and essentially functions as a means of interval training, the result is increased burning of calories and fat. Depending on the duration and intensity, tennis can even shed more calories that lifting weights, burning upwards of 400 and 600 calories per hour.

Mistakes Beginner Horseback Riders Make

Novice horseback riders tend to make some easily fixable common mistakes.

Beginners may feel the need to tightly hold the reins, but holding them too tightly pulls back on the horse’s head, leaving it unable to relax. Consequently, the animal can be more temperamental when this happens, causing the ride to be uncomfortable. It’s actually more beneficial to loosen up on the reins, leaving a bit of slack. This will give the horse some relief and let it relax, which in turn will slow things down and make the ride more enjoyable.

Having correct posture is another key element of horseback riding that beginners often overlook. Rather than slouching forward, the optimal position occurs when the shoulders, hips, and calves are all vertically aligned. The legs should be at the sides of the horse–not sticking out–and resting in a natural and comfortable fashion.

Many beginners make the error of watching the horse instead of watching where they are going. It’s important to be aware of one’s surroundings, especially when trail riding, in order to avoid hazards and maintain safety.

An accomplished corporate law professional, Deena Williamson has earned significant honors throughout her career, including recognition as Outstanding In-House Counsel by the American Corporate Counsel. Outside of her professional duties, Deena Williamson pursues a diverse range of hobbies that includes bicycling around Martha’s Vineyard off the coast of Massachusetts.

One of the nation’s most famous summer destinations, the historic Martha’s Vineyard offers a network of off-road bike trails to appeal to experienced and recreational bicyclists alike. For example, the 18-mile route from Vineyard Haven to Edgartown and back is suitable for most ages and experience levels, while more experienced riders can bike the entire perimeter of the island, a journey of more than 60 miles.

In addition to recreational trails, bicycling enthusiasts have numerous opportunities to raise money for their favorite charities while riding through the natural beauty of the Vineyard. Each year, for example, the National MS Society hosts Bike MS: Ride the Vineyard, which features a choice of a 20-, 30-, and 63-mile course to raise funds for MS research and support. Additionally, the annual Cycle Martha’s Vineyard event offers oceanside rides to raise money for Rotary charities.

Three Health Concerns to Consider Before You Go Scuba Diving

Deena Williamson serves as general counsel and corporate secretary for business outsourcing company IBEX Global. In her free time, Deena Williamson enjoys scuba diving. If you want to try scuba diving, first consider these three health issues. As always, consult a medical professional with any health concerns before you attempt any physically challenging sport.

1. Heart health – Heart disease is the most frequent cause of death among scuba divers. The stress on the heart due to water pressure and physical activity endangers those who have had a heart attack or suffer from heart disease. Consider having a diving fitness stress test before you dive.

2. Cold, flu, or congestion – Congestion in your sinuses or ears should make you reconsider your dive. A common and potentially serious injury is barotrauma, in which the inside of your body cannot properly adjust to pressure changes because of congestion. Even if you have mild congestion, consider rescheduling your dive.

3. Asthma – The hopeful scuba diver with asthma should be evaluated to see how controllable the condition is. Diving is not a good idea for those with severe asthma or chronic symptoms.
